Terry backs David Beckham

update - Back to the hat! Training report in english here.

John Terry, England captain, was interviewed on the BBC's Inside Sport last night and praised David Beckham as both a captain and a player, he was asked if David Beckham was too good to ignore [for the England national team] and he replied -
(Source) Yes, of course. He’s a fantastic player. That’s Steve McClaren’s decision to pick and drop players, but he’s still a world-class player.

He’d love to come back for his country and play.

Taking over from such an iconic captain as David Beckham was a tough act to follow. He changed the role of England captain in many ways.

But first and foremost he was a fantastic player and still is.

Real Madrid to appeal

As.com reports that Real Madrid will appeal the yellow card David Beckham received on Sunday. The club will dispute the card before the competition committee today. If that is unsuccessful they will make a further appeal on Thursday, details here. If the appeal is successful, David Beckham will be able to play against Sevilla. It would be the perfect birthday present and it would also be a fair outcome because the yellow card really wasn't justified as you will see in the clip of the incident that I've added above.

Cicinho Thanks Becks

Cicinho has singled out David Beckham for thanks in an interview with AS (online here). Cicinho returned to the first team after a long absence due to injury and played very well on Sunday against Athletic. He said that Becks had spoken with him before the match, telling him that he could play his natural attacking game and that he would cover him. It is clear that Becks support meant a lot. Cicinho also said "It's incredible to share the wing with Beckham. He is simply spectacular. I have never seen anyone hit the ball so well. It will be a shame if he misses the match against Sevilla due to suspension because the booking he got in Bilbao was completely unfair." You can read all of Cicinho's interview in english on the Real Madrid official site.

Finally The Sun has quite an interesting piece on all the houses that Posh and Becks have lived in over the years from Becks childhood home in Leytonstone through to their latest reported purchase.

'Beckham led the battle'

Update - Real Madrid have indicated they will investigate whether David Beckham's yellow card can be appealed. In the same report from The BBC Capello pays David Beckham a great compliment, saying -
His absence would be a very big loss. Now he is in very good form and against Athletic he had a great game.
'Beckham led the battle' was the conclusion of AS.com this morning. The post match analysis praised Beckham's contribution complimenting his touch, his passing, his assist for the first goal and his ability to organise the team, setting the pace and plan. Story here. Elias Israel in his post-match player assessments on Yahoo sport said David Beckham was not phased by the hostile atmosphere and was the key factor in the victory. It is always good to see David Beckham getting the recognition he deserves. Source.

Here's first half high-lights of David Beckham's great game against Athletic, I'll add the second half tomorrow. Commentary is in english.

In other news -

* Becks future team the LA Galaxy had their first win of the MLS season beating Chivas USA 3-1 on the weekend, details here.

* There is an interview with Sven Goran Erikkson in The Sun in which he defends David Beckham saying "he did a very good job as captain".

David Beckham meets the Everest Boys

This clip was on the Adidas site when the latest Impossible is nothing campaign launched but I think it was shorter and I can not find it on the Adidas site now so, for anyone who missed it, here's the video of Becks meeting the Everest Boys, Rob Gauntlett and James Hooper. Thanks to Bertster. It's a cute clip especially the part where Becks jokes about how
far he runs :)

Athletic 1 - 4 Real Madrid

david beckham warms up

The first of the photos are in the gallery.

Real Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao convincingly in San Mames to keep their title bid alive. They went into the match knowing that they needed a victory to stay within 2 points of the top of the table and despite the pressure, delivered and delivered well. David Beckham was instrumental in getting the game off to a flying start with Sergio Ramos heading in from a Becks free kick for the second week in a row, to give Real Madrid the psychological edge in the 13th minute. Van the Man scored a brace and Guti sealed the deal. The Official match report in english and photos are online here.

The Real Madrid match report praises Becks contribution saying "David Beckham had a colossal game" which he did. He played with tremendous heart and was crucial to the victory. It was a performance that was a fitting tribute to another great England No. 7 Alan Ball, who has recently passed away. Becks wore a black armband to mark his passing and as a show of respect for one of the legends of the game. Thanks to Siniestrototal for providing this info.

The only sour note was that Becks picked up his fifth yellow card and will serve a one match suspension, which will rule him out of next weeks game against second placed Sevilla.

Go Becks!

David Beckham

Update - Photos of Becks arriving in Bilbao Saturday are in the gallery

The squad list is out and the final training session is complete, you can view the training report in english online here. David Beckham will travel with the team tonight to San Mames ahead of the match against Athletic Bilbao. Becks will hopefully start as expected following his performance against Valencia. Capello when asked whether David Beckham would start said "The important thing is that he's recovered. He trained very well this week and we'll see if he's a starter tomorrow. I still don't know what my initial lineup will be." (Source)

A fierce physical contest between two sides with a huge amount at stake is predicted. Athletic Bilbao are facing relegation and desperately need the life-line these three points might provide but Real Madrid, having narrowed the gap at the top of the table to two points for a second time, can not afford a slip if their title hopes are to stay alive. View match preview.

I'm already nervous and it's not even Sunday yet! Let's all hope that earlier la liga results favor Real Madrid and relieve some of the pressure. Either way, here's hoping Becks has another great game and that Real Madrid win. Go Becks and Hala Madrid.

I'll be back after the game. Updates may be a little less frequent for the next four days as I am working on a few things for the site to celebrate David Beckham's birthday next Wednesday!

David Beckham expected to start

Blondie BeckhamDavid Beckham is expected to return to the Real Madrid starting line-up this Sunday when they play Athletic Bilbao. Details here.

There are nicer photos of Becks new look, taken this morning in Madrid, in the gallery.

The papers this morning are full of stories about Becks and his new "do". The Daily Mail reports that he has gone for the look as he and Victoria are scheduled to complete a photo session with top photographer Stephen Klein for America's fashion bible W, full story here.

AS Diario went with a picture of David Beckham on the cover (view) and reported that the new style was especially to celebrate his return to the starting line-up. They also mentioned that his team-mates are now referring to him as "Canizares", a reference to the Valencia Goal-keeper who also sports bleached blonde hair, a translation of the story is online here. David Beckham joked with reporters as he left training yesterday, "I like to change and with short hair I wanted to do it - although I've had the mickey taken out of me for it", source.

Thanks to Sieniestro total here is another cute video of David Beckham kidding around with his team-mates at yesterday's training, click here.

AS.com also carries an editorial by Guillem Balague where he praises the difference that David Beckham makes to Real Madrid and praises his quality as a player both in terms of his skill at passing and crossing but also in terms of his fighting spirit and determination. The column is in spanish but you can translate via your browser or babel fish translator.

Finally today's training report in english is online here. It was a warm and sunny day but Becks trained with his wooly hat on and was the only player to do so. Photos are in the 'this week' gallery

New Adidas clip

David Beckham and Ashley Cole are having a stare off!! Who knew Becks could do that with his eyebrow :) Now that's talent! I've added a few caps to the gallery.

You can view a slightly larger version of the Ad via the Adidas site click here and then click on the athlete rivalries button.

Todays training report is on the official site and photos are in the gallery, David Beckham has dyed his hair platinum blonde. As you can see in the photo of him arriving at training. He kept his hat firmly on his head during the session (it was raining) and received a lot of ribbing from his team-mates.

You can see a few cute shots of Becks at training over at Marca view video

David Beckham's PSA

Real Madrid admit mistake

Real Madrid Sporting Director Pedja Mijatovic has finally admitted that David Beckham's departure is due to a mistake by Real Madrid and is a source of regret, full story. Mijatovic blames press confusion but it is a weak excuse as the Real Madrid hierarchy chose to conduct negotiations and communicate via the press, this was not forced upon them. They had both the means and opportunity to sit down with David Beckham and make sure that all parties were clear, they didn't do it.

Becks supports Malaria No More

David Beckham appears in a public service announcement on behalf of Malaria No More (visit www.malarianomore.org to find out more about this worthy cause) that asks people to donate money for malaria nets to help protect under-priveleged children in Africa against the disease. You can follow this link to download the Ad or watch it on youtube below. A big thanks to Becks fan <3 for the heads up!

There are a couple of caps from the PSA in the gallery.

David Beckham Sky Sports clip

Sorry today's update is a little late but I had a few computer glitches making this clip of David Beckham's interview that aired on Revista de la liga last night, here it is at last! The presenter said that there would be more segments from the interview in coming weeks so I'll post them as they air. I've also put a few screen caps in the gallery.

NB I've updated the video to include comments from Guillem Balague, who interviewed Becks as he has makes some interesting observations and says that he thinks David Beckham would have liked to stay at Real Madrid for another two years if it were possible.

Todays training report and photos are on the official site here. There is also a video which you can access through the spanish main page here look for the video dated 25/4/2007 that starts "Trabajo fisico" it includes some footage of Becks at today's session. If you have difficulty accessing the Real Madrid site there is also a clip at Marca.com

Finally don't forget to tune in to American Idol tonight if you are in the US as David Beckham will be appear in a public service announcement to raise awareness about Malaria, that is scheduled to debut during the show details here.

David Beckham on Revista

becks and henrietta

Update April 25 - AS.com has a longer excerpt from David Beckham's interview. To translate into your language if you don't speak spanish, right click on the page, highlight the page info option and then click "translate page into ..." If you don't have this option in your browser copy the article and paste into the babel fish translator.

David Beckham was interviewed tonight on Sky sports Revista de la liga. You can read some of his comments online here and also here. I hope to have a video available tomorrow.

Becks, being as always a gentleman, refused to criticise Real Madrid or his current manager. I think David Beckham is an example to us all in the way he conducts himself and there is real wisdom in his approach. Becks has the sense to know when criticism will do more harm than good and the judgement to choose the minimum words necessary to deliver a restrained but effective message when he has something to say. He's a class act!

I posted a story last month from The Guardian about David Beckham mentoring Henrietta Brockway, story here scans of photos that accompanied the hard-copy article have been kindly donated to the site by a generous fan and are in the gallery. Thanks!

Becks on 'Idol gives back'

Update - Today's training report and photos are online here. It's good to see that David Beckham's impressive return to action hasn't aggravated his knee and he continues to train with the team.

David beckham will appear on Idol Gives BackAccording to this mornings Sun David Beckham will be making an appearance on this week's American Idol show 'Idol gives back' in which A-list stars raise awareness about poverty in Africa. Becks has filmed a segment where he teaches children how to take a free kick. The special show will air over two nights, tonight and Wednesday at 7pm central in the US. The second night will be hosted by Ellen Degeneres. For further details of what is planned click here. Check your local listings to see when it airs in your country.

Becks is having a busy week on the box it seems! I posted this yesterday but just a reminder that an interview with David Beckham will screen on Sky Sports Revista de la liga tonight at 6.30pm UK time.

A huge thank you to horseheadelmadrid, who made the highlights clip from the Real Madrid v Valencia game I previously posted, as they have very kindly re-made the clip just for David Beckham fans so I have updated the news item "David Beckham highlights" below with this clip.

Update - Here also is a clip of a Real Madrid supporter running onto the field to give Becks his shirt during last Saturday's game. As you can see from this video and photos in the gallery, Becks was very calm and kind towards the 'fan' under difficult circumstances.

David Beckham Interview

skysport interview

AS.com have a few quotes from an interview with David Beckham that Skysport will show tomorrow. You can read it online here. The official Real Madrid site also features the excerpts in english here. There is also a piece on David beckham's interview at Goal with additional quotes, story here. The interview will air on Revista de la liga at 6.30pm UK time tomorrow for further details and replay times, click here.

Photo additions

I've added another 20 photos of David Beckham from Saturday's game to the 'RM this week' gallery.

There are also four photos of Becks heading out for lunch yesterday in Madrid in the 'out and about' gallery

Finally, Sid Lowe is tipping Real Madrid to win La Liga in his own inimitable and very sarcastic way. You can view his oh so funny column here.

David Beckham highlights

This video from You Tube (thanks to horseheaddelmadrid) has highlights of David Beckham from the Real Madrid v Valencia match. I was going to create a clip but this one has footage from the end of the match of Becks saluting the crowd and celebrating the win with his team mates and the broadcast that aired on television in my country cut to ads at the end and never showed this. The commentators on this clip are less head-ache inducing than mine too :) Enjoy!

The Sun are reporting this morning that LA Galaxy are beefing up security ahead of David Beckham's arrival after a fan ran on to the pitch to give his shirt to Becks during Saturday night's match against Valencia. Details here.

Good news, the weekends La Liga results have bought Real Madrid closer to the top of the table. Barclona lost to Villareal last night to remain leaders on 59 points, while Sevilla thrashed Athletic (who Real Madrid play next weekend) to move into second on 58 points and Real Madrid are in third on 57 points. With seven weeks remaining Real Madrid will need to win the rest of their matches and rely on at least one further slip from Barcelona to take top spot. Real Madrid will play Sevilla at the Bernabeu on May 6 and the outcome of this match will be critical to both teams title bids. It won't be easy but there is a chance, so let's all hope that Real Madrid can win the title and that David Beckham and his team-mates finish the season in style!

David Beckham's free kick assist

Update - Added some new photos and replaced some tagged photos with large untagged in the gallery also added to headlines below.

Finally, Sergio Ramos (Source) and Ruud Van Nistelrooy (Source) both praised David Beckham's contribution to the second goal in their post match comments. You can also see them celebrating the goal with Becks in the video above.

Ramos said: "Beckham made it easy for me and I congratulated him in the dressing room. With players like him, it is very easy to do things well."

"It’s been a long time since someone gave me such a good pass”

Van Nistelrooy said: "David Beckham is a great player. The public want him here because he has played well. Today we have all played well. It is important to continue like this. If we play like this everything is possible."

Real Madrid 2 - 1 Valencia

happy becksThe official match report is online here.

The first of the photos from the game are in the gallery and thanks to a generous Becks fan, Amanda, I have also added some large photos of David Beckham at training earlier in the week here.

David Beckham came on as a substitute in the 65th minute and within 7 minutes had set up the match winning goal with Sergio Ramos heading in from a Becks free kick. He had an outstanding game adding much needed impetus to the attack with his perfectly placed passes and crosses turning the tide in Real Madrids favor. It was great to see the smile on his face at the end, he will have missed playing and he certainly enjoyed being back!

Fabio Capello acknowledged his performance had been key to Real Madrid's second half saying in the post match press conference (Source)
“I liked my team a lot. The first-half with Gago and Higuain playing very well and the second with the quality of Beckham and Guti was key, although also the pace was slower and there was more space for everyone."

On Beckham's return, Capello added: "He recovered from his injury this week and played very well. I asked him before the game if he could play and he said 'yes'. He's going to America, but that's the club's problem, not mine. He is contracted to us so he can play for us."
P.S If you haven't already seen them, there are three videos of David and Victoria Beckham in Paris available at Splash video in the Guest archive.

David Beckham on squad list

Becks is backGreat news! David Beckham was named in the Real Madrid squad to face Valencia tomorrow at the Santiago Bernabeu. Becks, who has been out injured for the last six weeks is expected to start the match on the bench and may play a role as a sub. Today's training report is online here and I've added three more photos from yesterday's training to the 'Real Madrid' gallery.

David Beckham attended the opening of a medical center to be run by Alfonso De Corral, a doctor at Real Madrid, in Madrid last night. There are three photos in the 'out and about' gallery.

It is good to be able to welcome Becks back to the squad! The match against Valencia will be a tough one let's all hope for a Real Madrid victory and a good return to action for Becks! You can read a match preview online here.

Becks and sons out shopping

Becks shoppingDavid Beckham and his sons Brooklyn and Romeo were out at a sport shopping center this afternoon in Madrid. Becks was carrying a few Spider-man related toys by the looks of things - he and the boys must be getting into Spider-man 3 mode - and Romeo has a new super cute short hair-cut! Photos in the gallery. David Beckham was named Sexiest Dad on Victoria Secret's list of sexy celebs today and it's not hard to see why! Details here.

Galaxy enjoys Beckham factor

update - David Beckham trained with the team and completed a full session for the second consecutive day. The training report and 3 photos of Becks are on the official site.

LA Galaxy is already feeling the effects of the Beckham factor with the club seeing an additional 13.3 million in sales ahead of David Beckham's arrival Stateside, full story.

I've replaced a few of the tagged photos from David and Victoria Beckham's trip to Paris with non-tagged ones and added two more photos of Posh and Becks on their way to the airport here and added two photos of Becks from yesterday's training to the gallery

Pele has wished David Beckham well in the States but urged the MLS hierarchy to recruit more big names he told The Sun -
With Beckham, maybe he can help to create more opportunities and create competition to rival the other sports.

But they need more big names. Just David Beckham is not enough.

They need more to try to close that gap between training and tournaments.

I hope Beckham has luck there and can promote football in the States like we did before.
The Sunday Times annual rich list of the 1000 wealthiest Brits is out this weekend and Becks is in at position 619, details here.

David Beckham rejoins squad

The Beckhams in Paris

Beckham's in Paris

David Beckham treated his wife Victoria to a surprise trip to Paris for her birthday complete with shopping spree and elegant dinner. Reports say they flew in by private jet and hit the shops in the upmarket Marais district before heading out to a wonderful dinner at Guy Savoy. You can read more about the special day Becks arranged for Posh in The Sun. They looked happy and relaxed, photos from the shopping trip and of the couple making their way to dinner are in the gallery. A big thank you to Tiette for the heads up!

There was a story in the Daily Mail yesterday about David Beckham's tattoo which provides further details about the words that Becks has included. They report that he has chosen to have the words "pray for me" on the inside of his right wrist. The article quotes sources and suggests the motives behind the tattoo but I don't know how reliable it is as the Daily Mail doesn't have a great track record for accuracy of reporting so keep that in mind, story here.

In other news, high profile NFL star Reggie Bush will reportedly travel to Madrid later this month to film an Adidas commercial with David Beckham, details here.

Happy Birthday Victoria!

david and victoria beckham

Happy Birthday to Victoria 'Posh' Beckham who is 33 today. I hope she has a wonderful day with her family. I thought it would be nice to celebrate Victoria's special day by adding some photos from David and Victoria Beckham's wedding, another special day, to the gallery.

The Sun has a funny headline this morning 'Golden Balls becomes Big Balls' I think their headline writer has outdone themselves! The article is about how brave and calm David Beckham was during a recent six hour tattooing session and mentions that Becks actually wanted his new tattoo to say "Each man the architect of his own fate" but as they worked on the design they ended up with "Let them hate so long as they fear" by a process of elimination. I like the sentiment expressed by the initial quote. (Source)

update - David Beckham continued to train on the pitch but separately from the team this morning. The training report is online. Today's three photos along with two more David Beckham photos from yesterday are in the gallery. Also check out the training video on the official site here look for the 'los entrenamientos' clip.

Becks bouncing back!

David Beckham trained on the pitch today. You can find the training report on the official site I have also added the four photos from the oficial site and one other from today's training to the gallery for convenience. Although Becks is still training separately from the team, he does look like he is recovering well! Let's hope he has a good week in training this week.

David Beckham to play in Vancouver

Good news for any Vancouver based fans. An exhibition match between LA Galaxy and Vancouver Whitecaps will be announced at a news conference later today. The match will be played October 3 at BC Place Stadium, details here.

Eva Longoria is a Becks fan!

david beckham smash hits

The Daily Mail featured an interview with Eva Longoria today and this is what she had to say about David Beckham and his wife Victoria :-

David Beckham and Thierry Henry are my fantasy dinner dates. Everything about them is sexy, cool and sophisticated.

I’m a very lucky girl, because I’ve got to know both of them and can now count them as friends. David is a wonderful guy to spend time with and he’s so gorgeous.

He is definitely a lot of girls’ fantasy man. Having said that, Victoria has nothing to fear from me. I’m practically married myself, so she has no reason to worry. We’ve been out to dinner together a few times and she’s hilarious company.

She’s one very funny girl, and she’s got the most fantastic taste in clothes. I love what she wears. The Beckhams are a fabulous addition to the LA social scene.
Eva is not the only celebrity talking about David Beckham it seems Ioan Gruffudd has challenged David Beckham to a football match when he gets to LA, details here.

Finally, I've added various photos of a very young (and very cute!) David Beckham from photo shoots he did for Smash Hits and others to the gallery.

David Beckham Fans Online Video

Over the last few months I've posted a few videos on the site of David Beckham interviews, Ads, match highlights etc but I realise that once they are in the archives they can be hard to find without some serious digging! So I've added a video section to the site and placed all the David Beckham videos in the one spot for convenience. I'll be adding more videos over the next couple of weeks too!

Racing Santander 2 - 1 Real Madrid

I was hoping to have good news to report but unfortunately the match against Racing Santander descended into farce and Real Madrid, who finished the game with only 9 men on the pitch, lost, with both Racing Santander goals coming from penalties. The match was decided by highly controversial and, in the case of at least one penalty and both red cards, dubious refereeing. It is always a shame when matches are decided in this way. We will have to wait and see the outcome of tomorrow's games to know the full extent of the damage. The match report is online here.

'David Beckham will always be a legend'

David Beckham and Roberto Carlos

Roberto Carlos Da Silva, close friend and team-mate of David Beckham, told the Associated Press in an interview earlier today -
In my opinion, he [David Beckham] is among the five or six best players in the world and the best free kick taker," Roberto Carlos said. "For me, David Beckham will always be a legend ... everything David represents for soccer, as an example to children, is reserved for very few people."
He also made some very interesting comments about why Real Madrid had failed to win any competitions in recent seasons. Citing the clubs commercial agenda as a major stumbling block and criticising Real Madrid for "using" David Beckham. You can read the full article here.

It was a great tribute for Roberto Carlos to pay to his good friend, he goes to the very top of the people we love list! Let's wish him every success with whatever club he joins at the end of this season.

Motosoccer contest

Motorola are running a sweepstake which is open to all U.S. legal residents, aged 21 and over. The main prize is a chance to attend a David Beckham Masterclass at his Academy in Carson hosted by David Beckham himself. There are also prizes of David Beckham training kits from his official Adidas line and exclusive David Beckham soccer balls. The sweepstake is open until July 5, 2007 click here to enter.

Becks still recovering

David Beckham did not return to the pitch today. The official training report in english is online here. Becks remained inside the Gymn facilities and will not be available to travel with the team to Racing Santander, as his injury is taking longer to heal than the doctors predicted, so he needs more time to recover. Let's wish him all the best and hope that he can overcome this injury soon.

On a lighter note, Becks is reportedly planning a boys night out before he heads Stateside. Friends from his childhood and from his years at Manchester United will be invited to a farewell at a London Pub, details here.

Finally, LA Galaxy lost it's first home game of the season 2 - 1 to FC Dallas, more details here.

David Beckham on the pitch

Becks on the pitchDavid Beckham resumed training on the pitch again today, although he did not resume training with the team. It is a positive sign of progress that he spent some time working with the ball. It was also nice to hear that his team-mates were cheering him on. The training report in english and photos are on the official site. There are new photos of Becks at training in the gallery too.

AS.com have an article about the training session. They report that David Beckham is recovering but as he has not trained with the team as yet this week, it's uncertain if he will be named in the squad to travel to Racing Santander. There is also a video clip which features Becks posted on the front page of the official site, look for 'agenda de entrenamientos'.

There is also an article on the official site about David Beckham and other Real Madrid players meeting with a under-priveleged children from Brasil.

In LA Galaxy news, Tim Leiweke, LA Galaxy President, has confirmed that an offer is on the table for Zinedine Zidane to come out of retirement and join David Beckham at the club, details here. There is no word yet on whether Zidane will accept the offer. The full interview between Gazetto dello Sport and Tim Leiweke can be viewed in Italian on their site.

Flashback Becks!

david beckham and iker casillas

Nothing new but something very old instead today! By popular demand, I've updated the Iker Casillas gallery with some old photos of Becks and Iker wrestling on the ground, punching each other and generally having fun! Well boys will be boys.

I've also posted some photos from one of Becks earliest photo sessions in his England kit. You can see this blast from the past in the gallery.

New Adidas Site for MLS

Adidas have a new MLS site it was due for launch on April 7 and so is a few days late. The main news from the site launch is that it confirms that David Beckham will wear number 23 and Quavas Kirk who previously wore that number is the LA Galaxy player that Adidas features in their campaign.

In other MLS related news, The Sun and a couple of other newspapers are reporting or rather mis-reporting that tickets to David Beckham's first two games for the LA Galaxy are being sold for 10 quid. That would be a great price... if it were true... but it's not. The Beckham 2 pack starts at US $20 and provides a ticket for tonight's LA Galaxy home game against FC Dallas which David Beckham most assuredly won't be at and for the August 23rd game against Chivas USA which Becks is scheduled to play in. It is anticipated that both his LA Galaxy and his MLS regular game debuts will be prior to August 23 but dates are unconfirmed. The Beckham pack is quite a good deal nevertheless and further details can be found on the official site if you are interested.

Finally, a shout out to fans in Canada, CBC are going to broadcast the LA Galaxy v Toronto FC match scheduled for Aug 5. Whether David Beckham will play in this match is still to be confirmed but it is widely rumored that this might be his MLS regular game debut for the LA Galaxy, details here.

David Beckham face of Motomini

Moto Mini

David Beckham is the face of Motorola's new advertising push for the Motomini bluetooth technology. Unfortunately, it is not a new photo just an adaptation of a picture from a previous shoot (you can click the picture above to view a larger version). What is of interest though, is that to date Becks has only featured in Motorola campaigns for Asia, so this marks the first time Motorola has featured him in advertisements for the US. A clear sign that his celebrity and profile Stateside is growing.

David Beckham trained in the Gymn again today, today's training report is online here. He will be frustrated by his delayed recovery so let's all send all the positive thoughts and healing energy we can in his direction!

David Beckham and team-mates

update 2 - David Beckham attended a party for Roberto Carlos yesterday photos in the gallery.

team=mates album

It's a slightly slower news days than usual for Becks! Something which hardly ever happens. So I have decided to post some of my favorite photos of David Beckham with his team-mates, including a few with Roberto Carlos who is 34 years old today, Happy Birthday to him, photos here. These are old photos and you may be familiar with all or most but the photos of Becks having a joke, celebrating and even commiserating with his team-mates are amongst those I like best as the spirit of comraderie is a part of what makes football such a beautiful game!

In other news, The Sun has details of the new tattoo David Beckham was sporting Sunday at the Real Madrid v Osasuna game. The Tattoo contains the number 23 as you can clearly see in this photo and according to The Sun has the words of a Roman poem etched above a picture of a guardian angel with wings, shrouded in flames. The roman poem reads Let them hate as long as they fear.

Update - David Beckham remained in the Gymn during today's training session, suggesting he may have had some small set back to his recovery at the end of last week. The training report is online here. Let's all hope that he is back to full strength soon.

Adidas contest reminder

Adidas have been running a campaign called Predator v F50 here is a link to the site for anyone who missed it last time. David Beckham is expected to play in this game along with a number of footabll stars including Lionel Messi, Michael Ballack, Kaka and winners of the Predator and F50 Adidas boots contest which is open to purchasers until April 18.

Real Madrid 2 - 0 Osasuna

david beckham watches Real Madrid win

David Beckham will have enjoyed watching Real Madrid beat Osasuna tonight (Match Report) as this important win means that only two points separate Barcelona, Sevilla and Real Madrid at the top of the table. Barcelona lost their match against Zaragoza to remain on 56 points, Sevilla drew their game with Racing to move to 55 points and Real Madrid are now on 54 points. There are 9 games remaining in La Liga and the competition is wide open. David Beckham will be looking forward to getting back into the thick of things and doing all he can to help with Real Madrid's title bid! Here's hoping he has a good week in training. Photos are in the gallery and show Becks sporting a new tattoo. Happy Easter everyone.

David Beckham MUTV 2

Update - David Beckham resumed training with the rest of the team this morning. Training report and photo are online here. However, he is not in the squad to face Osasuna as he did not complete training today, details here. His training with the team is great news but he still needs more time to be match ready and we will hopefully see Becks in the squad next week.
David Beckham was interviewed on MUTV last month and two clips from the interview were posted and can be found in the March archive Part 1 here and extra clip here. Here is a third part where Becks talks about his team mates and friends, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville. Special thanks to Becks fan Notorious mvp for sharing her clips. Apologies for the delay in posting this but there were some syncing issues and so I've re-recorded the audio and tried to re-align it. I hope you'll ignore the remaining glitches and still enjoy what Becks has to say :)

MLS season starts today

The 2007 MLS season gets underway today and details of online video and audio coverage of MLS games can be found by clicking here. Although many of us may not plan on watching MLS games until David Beckham arrives, the page will let you test the video option to see how it performs on your computer. Online video may not be an option for fans outside of the US and its territories as global black out restrictions will apply when games are televised in the US and most of David Beckham's games will be televised. However, these restrictions do not appear to apply to audio which should be available as a last resort if MLS games are not televised in your region.

David Beckham's Dad interviewed

David Beckham's Dad, Ted Beckham, has been involved with a soccer school in Dubai this week. He spoke with a local paper about his hopes that Becks will get to play for England again, interview here.

Kit News

LA Galaxy TicketDavid Beckham sugested on the TV show Cold Pizza a couple of days after his move to the MLS team LA Galaxy was announced, that he would like to wear the number 23 when he joins the club. It is of course his current number with Real Madrid and Becks has said in interviews that the number is special to him because it was worn by Michael Jordan, one of his sporting heroes. When the LA Galaxy roster came out earlier this week ahead of the season kicking-off this weekend, Quavas Kirk who had previously worn the 23 shirt has changed to the number 15 and new recruit Ian Russell has been assigned the number 7. David Beckham does not appear on the roster as yet but the number 23 is now available for when he does. David Beckham may not be with the LA Galaxy for the start of the season but he will still have a presence, as his face is featured on tickets for the first game as pictured.

David Beckham's sexy boots!According to the german website 'sport 2000' the boots pictured left will be the next models released in the Adidas David Beckham Predator range and will be introduced July/August 2007 to coincide with David Beckham's move to the US. Thanks to Becks fan Ben for sending in the kit news.

I've also added a few more scans from David Beckham Making it Real: My soccer skills book to the gallery. Thanks to the kind fan who donated them to the site.

Update - Todays training report and photos (including a very cute one of Roberto Carlos and Becks) are on the official site. David Beckham and Roberto Carlos continued to train separately so that they could focus on strengthening the areas where they have been injured. The squad for Osasuna will be named tomorrow after a final training session.

New Pepsi website!

david beckham's page

If you haven't already seen it, Pepsi has a new website to go with their new Ad campaign. It has tonnes of goodies! You will find David Beckham desktops, an interview with Becks, skills tutorial, his own personal pepsi can design, the Ad of course and a making of the Ad "behind the scenes" clip as well as a "behind the scenes" gallery with photos. I have added a few screen caps from the site to the gallery.

click here to visit the site howyoufootball.com

Each player is represented by a train because the Ad is set in a train station, so look out for the Beckham Express No. 7 train for a lot of the goodies and explore the download areas etc as well! There's also a contest in there somewhere but I'm still looking around at everything!

Update - David Beckham trained on the pitch but separate from the team again today, training report and photo are on the official site.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate this holiday!

David Beckham Making it Real

Update - David Beckham and Roberto Carlos continued recuperating today. They worked out separately again but were showing clear signs of improvement. The training report and photos are now online.

David Beckham Making it Real David Beckham released the book "Making it Real: My football/soccer skills book" last September in the UK and in February in the US. I have posted a few scans in the gallery. The book, as well as containing instructional info for soccer players, has many pictures and some very nice biographical info about Becks and his childhood. Personally, as a fan I think it's worth having whether you play soccer or not as it's a good reference for many fitness related questions and did I mention there are pictures of Becks? :)

AS.com reports this morning that David Beckham is very keen to play against Osasuna and if he is recovered in time Capello may play him in the centre of midfield as both Guti and Gago are unavailable, details here. I have also added a couple of pictures of Becks at training yesterday that were not included with the training report to the gallery

Finally, the 12th season of MLS kicks off this weekend and the New York Times has a good story about the state of the league and David Beckham's signing.

New Pepsi Ad!

David Beckham's new pepsi Ad - "Shuffle"

Becks on the mend

David Beckham trained on the pitch today. Both he and Roberto Carlos left the gymn and spent time jogging along with Higuain and Gago, this is a positive sign that things are progressing well with Becks recovery and that his tentative goal of returning for the match against Osasuna might be achievable. It was especially nice to hear that Becks received an ovation from the rest of the team when he took to the pitch. It seems they are as happy and excited to see him recovering as we are! The full training report and photos are on the official site.

Bentley backs Beckham

David Bentley, Blackburn Rovers and England U-21 player who is being tipped for a call up to the senior squad was interviewed in The Times today, he made some excellent comments about David Beckham -

“I’m on Beckham’s side, definitely,” he said. “I think he’s been our best player for the past seven or eight years. Every time he’s been out there he’s given his all and I’m not sure that attitude is really there now.

“I’d have him back tomorrow. He was Real Madrid’s best player last season and then all of a sudden he took the brunt of the criticism for England’s poor World Cup. He accepted that like a man, and I’d have him back playing on the right. Yeah, that’s the position I’m up for, but so what? If I’m good enough I’ll get in the squad anyway.”
In other news there are rumors circulating that Adidas, which has sponsorship deals with both David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane, is in talks with MLS and LA Galaxy officials about sponsoring a deal for Zizou to come out of retirement and play alongside Becks. However talks, if in fact happenining at all, are only at the initial stages. Source

La Liga update

Real Madrid won their match away to Celta 2 - 1 to remain third in La Liga 5 points behind leaders Barcelona who also won over the weekend. Second place holders Sevilla, drew their match to slip 2 points behind Barcelona on 54. With 10 matches remaining. Real Madrid still have a chance if they can keep winning and Barcelona stumble in a couple of matches. Hopefully David Beckham will be recovered and back on the pitch soon!
