Update - LA Galaxy have progressed to the semi-finals of the Super Liga after winning a thriller against Dallas FC tonight 6-5. The match report with audio/video and the play-by-play is online here. The semis will be played in mid-August.

David Beckham has posted a new blog entry read it here!



LA Galaxy coach, Frank Yallop has told reporters that David Beckham's target is Toronto and that he is expected to travel with the team on Friday. A decision about whether he can play will be made closer to the time. The match between the Galaxy and Toronto FC on August 5th will be the teams first MLS regular game since David Beckham joined the club. LA Galaxy General Manager, Alexi Lalas has reportedly said, "If we had it to do over again, the Chelsea game and the trip to Colorado (for the MLS All-Star game), we wouldn't have done it" suggesting that the club realises now that these decisions have impacted on David Beckham's recovery time-table. Lalas also said that Becks won't play until he's 100 percent healthy, "We don't want to fall into this trap of trying to appease everybody and aggravate the injury... If he's constantly playing catch up, he'll be no good to the Galaxy and we'll suffer on and off the field. It's a long-term play here" source.

David Beckham was voted Manchester United's best premier league right midfielder in a poll conducted on the club's official site. He won convincingly receiving over 100,000 more votes than the second placed Ronaldo. Congratulations Becks!

There is an interview with David Beckham's team-mate Quavas Kirk in The Telegraph in which he talks about how much he is looking forward to playing with Becks and some of the security changes at the club his arrival has required, full story here

As posted yesterday, David Beckham's ankle injury will receive treatment today and after an assessment, a decision will be made on whether he will travel to Texas with the LA Galaxy ahead of Tuesday's Super Liga game, more here.

Updated - LA Galaxy have unfortunately announced that David Beckham will not be travelling to Texas. Coach Yallop said that "He's going to stay here and train.... David Beckham has been nominated in the best sports person catergory at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2007. You can vote online here.

David Beckham, who is still recovering from an ankle injury, cheered on his team-mates from the bench during last nights Super Liga game against Chivas de Guadalajara which the LA Galaxy lost 2-1. The match report is online here. Photos are in the gallery.

LA Galaxy General Manager Alexi Lalas told the post match press conference, "We were real happy David wanted to be a part of the team and on the bench... He was excited and animated and he wants this team to win... He's frustrated, he wants to play and, to a certain extent, he feels he's letting people down... But this is a long-term process. He's going to be with us for a long time and we need to get him 100 percent healthy. We've got plenty of games. We just need to get him healthy." David Beckham will travel with the team today to Texas ahead of Tuesday's SuperLiga game against FC Dallas, (source). He will be hoping to play some part in the match and a decision will be made closer to game time, fingers crossed! Correction - the team will travel on Monday and a decision will be made on whether David Beckham will be with them once his ankle is assessed Monday morning, details here.

Becks recovering

LA Galaxy will play the second of their Super Liga matches tomorrow against Chivas Guadalajara. David Beckham has not trained with his new team this week and has been confined to gymn work (details here) as he is still nursing an ankle injury and will not be able to play. LA Galaxy coach, Frank Yallop, said today, "He won't be playing tomorrow, but he's feeling better, the soreness is going... He gets a lot of work done on it and it gets sore, then the work that he's had done is obviously helping it, so the soreness keeps getting lighter and lighter... Once he gets out here and puts his boots on, he'll be close to being ready to go." Full story here. Here's hoping that Becks recovery is going well and that he's fighting fit soon!

David Beckham's Soccer USA debuts tonight! It will air in the US on Fox Soccer Channel at 9PM ET and in the UK at 7.15PM on Five! The 13-episode series will begin with Becks debut match. The remaining episodes will focus on a different MLS tilt each week, and will include video highlights from Galaxy games and Becks personal life; interviews with him and others from MLS; as well as special segments about his life leading up to his trip to America and what he plans to do now that he's there. As previously mentioned, the 13 part series will also be available on MLSnet.com I will be keeping an eye on the site and will let you know when the first show goes online.

Hopefully the show will draw a good audience! David Beckham's MLS debut drew the highest ratings ESPN have ever had for a soccer game with approximately 1.5 million viewers tuning in and significantly it was a Saturday night ratings winner for men in the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, more here.

John Terry Backs Becks

John Terry has told reporters how important he considers David Beckham to be for England, he said "I hope he [Beckham] plays in the next games. Speaking on behalf of the whole England squad, on his recent performances I think he is one of the first names down in the squad when it is announced. We are just hoping he gets very fit and can be available." (Source)

Everton's Alan Stubbs has also had some nice words of praise for Becks, saying "He’s had a massive resurgence in the last three or four months and he seems to be the type who thrives on people writing him off. A lot of players don’t have that in them but he’s proved all the doubters wrong and I really respect that". You can read what he had to say online here.

Finally here is my favorite quote from the documentary that aired last night 'David Beckham: American Dream'. Becks said "Brooklyn and Romeo have learnt Spanish. Brooklyn is almost fluent...Romeo is the middle child, so he has a bit of a different personality. He thinks he's fluent, he jabbers along...They're great little boys. I turned around to them once and said 'where's your favorite house?' Is it Spain? Is it the house in England? Brooklyn just turned 'round and said 'Daddy, wherever you and Mommy are. That's our favorite house.' They're happy boys." Isn't Brooklyn just the sweetest little guy ever! So cute :)

Update - David Beckham debuted in the 78th minute of the tonight's friendly between LA Galaxy and Chelsea coming on as a substitute to replace Alan Gordon for the Galaxy. Chelsea won the game 1 - 0 You can read some of his post-match comments online here and also more about the night here.

Whether David Beckham will make a brief appearance as a substitute in tonight's friendly between LA Galaxy and Chelsea won't be known until game time. Jose Mourinho, Chelsea Manager, has advised the LA Galaxy to take a cautious approach with regards to Becks injury (source) as there has been speculation that he is being pressured to play (story here). I hope this isn't the case and comments from current coach Frank Yallop suggest that he certainly wants to see David Beckham's best interests respected.

Despite the "will he - won't he" speculation in the media, David Beckham continues to get on with the process of recovering from his injury and fitting in with his new team. New team-mate Kyle Martino said of Becks "He’s meshed with the team so well. He’s been in on every conversation, he’s outgoing, he’s humble. To be the icon that he is and still be able to be the human being that he is, is something that everyone respects inside the locker room." More here

David Beckham was unable to train today but there is still some suggestion he will make a cameo appearance in tomorrow's friendly against Chelsea to appease fans and TV demands. David Beckham attended the MLS All Stars game in Commerce City, Colorado, tonight photos are in the gallery.

Here is David Beckham's half-time interview that aired on ESPN. You can also watch him present the DC United U-17's with their trophy here.



The Times reported that David Beckham attended the game between the MLS All-Stars and Celtic as a special guest of the MLS Commisioner. He took a private jet to Colorado with Cobi Jones and Landon Donovan, LA Galaxy's representatives in the MLS All-star side, after spending several hours greeting hundreds of schoolkids at his soccer academy at the Home Depot Centre. Becks told ESPN in his half-time interview (above) that he would not start for LA Galaxy in the game against Chelsea this Saturday. However, he still hopes that he might make an appearance as a sub depending on how his ankle responds to treatment today, for more on this and also the clubs comments story here. The Sun have compared David Beckham's new team to a pub side and their comments, with varying degrees of venom, are echoed throughout the British press today, Reuters have a summary of the coverage. David Beckham is certainly going to have his work cut out for him in helping resurrect the LA Galaxy's flagging fortunes but Becks will certainly give it everything he's got!

David Beckham's injury status continues to be monitored day-to-day ahead of his planned debut this Saturday and his scheduled attendance at the MLS All-star game in Colorado today, remains unconfirmed - latest here.

Becks attends Galaxy game

David Beckham watched the LA Galaxy lose 3 - 0 to Tigres UANL in their first 'World Series of Football' game today. Becks had an ice pack strapped to his left ankle through out the game, photos are in the gallery. The official match report is online here.

There were some nice quotes from David Beckham's new team-mates in today's Guardian. Kyle Veris said "I got to work with him and he's a really down to earth guy... It's nice to have him as part of the team." Read more quotes here.

There is also an article in The Times with details of David Beckham's first few days in Los Angeles, including discussion of the pressures his injury creates. The article also mentions that he was reportedly trailed by 20 cars filled with paparazzi on a trip to get coffee and a Toys'R'us store had to be closed so he could buy new bicycles for his sons without being mobbed. The BBC has the latest on David Beckham's injury with coach Frank Yallop suggesting that it is 50/50 whether he will debut against Chelsea. Yallop also says that David Beckham's scheduled appearance at this Thursday's MLS All-star game against Celtic FC is being reviewed and will be confirmed closer to the time depending on whether it is thought the extra travel might further aggravate Becks injury.

The latest information that I have, thanks to Becks fan Ben, is that authentic LA Galaxy short-sleeve David Beckham home and away shirts are now available for order through Soccer.com also known as Eurosport. You can also order all versions of replica shirts, however David Beckham long sleeve authentic shirts are not available yet - only plain authentic long sleeve LA Galaxy home shirts with no pre-printed player name. You can pay to have these shirts customised and to ensure that customisation is authentic you need to select the "hero" customisation option.

The MLS website has an area dedicated to David Beckham coverage I posted a link on Sunday but it might have gotten lost in all the news so for anyone who missed it here it is again. The site is well worth checking out and compared to the Real Madrid site it's pretty impressive!

They have a number of videos including a clip of the recent MLS photoshoot with David Beckham in his new LA Galaxy kit. The video on the MLS site is better quality and can be watched in three sizes including full screen but it is a windows file so for anyone having trouble accessing here it is via You Tube - thanks to a Becks fan for sharing the link!

David Beckham attended his first LA Galaxy soccer practice this afternoon. First of the photos are in the LA Galaxy Gallery.

There are also photos of Becks grabbing a coffee on the way to training here.

Becks was unable to participate fully in today's training session and trained apart from the team for the most of the session because he is still recovering from the ankle injury he sustained when playing for England and aggravated during his final match with Real Madrid.

Frank Yallop, LA Galaxy coach, said "his ankle is quite swollen" and they will be monitoring his progress day to day to see if he can take some part in his scheduled debut for the LA Galaxy against Chelsea this coming weekend.

David Beckham didn't speak with the press after practice but some of his new team-mates did. LA Galaxy captain, Landon Donovan said "He's a great guy. I've heard that from people and now I can confirm it."

"He's used to this kind of hoopla and attention, but we're not," goaltender Joe Cannon said. "But he's been a gentleman, a good guy in the locker room." You can read more quotes and the full story here.

Joe Cole backs Becks

Joe Cole, currentlyon tour with Chelsea in the US, told reporters "David's a fantastic player and I have no doubt whatsoever that he will be a monumental success in America. His career and achievements in the game speak for themselves and since he has returned to the national side he looks fresher and hungrier.

He's playing like someone 10 years younger than his age. As far as I'm concerned there are few players better than him at the moment. In the recent England games he created three of the four goals — doesn't that speak for itself?

* Tours - LA Galaxy have revealed that in additon to the exhibition match scheduled for November 27th against Sydney FC in Australia they also have matches in Asia and England planned.

* TV - Fox Soccer Channel are going to be airing 'Beckhamania' a special review of David Beckham's LA Galaxy presentation tonight, at 8PM ET check your local listings.

* Injury news - In case you missed this quote from David Beckham he said when asked about his injury on Friday "Well, I was in the south of France, as you all saw last week, on a bicycle... I was doing 45 kilometers a day. Physically, I'm great. My ankle is still slightly swollen. I ran on it for the first time about three days ago in London. It felt slightly unstable, so there's still a bit of work to do. I'll be getting that work done in the next couple of days by massaging and treatment and hopefully a bit of running, and we'll take it from there. It should be alright for the game against Chelsea." Becks sounds optimistic so fingers crossed that his recovery goes to plan.

Updated - Becks was also quoted in the LA Times as saying "The [therapist] already has looked at it here, and he said the sooner we can get massage into it and working on it, the better. So hopefully I'll be training by the middle of next week and be ready for the game." Based on this I would say that David Beckham does not expect to train with the team on Monday as planned although it's still possible he might make a brief appearance during the LA Galaxy open day?

David Beckham was officially unveiled as a LA Galaxy player at a presentation this morning at the club. Thousands of LA Galaxy season-ticket-holders attended and made sure Becks received a warm and raucous reception! They greeted him with a rendition of "One David Beckham, theres only one David Beckham". More details of the pesentation online here and over 100 photos are in the La Galaxy gallery. I will still continue to update this site but feel it is a good time to wind this site back a little as the official site will have the latest news for fans! It also has a blog and the first post from Becks is up! Go check it out here!

LA Galaxy News

The club is running an open day on Monday July 16 from 2pm PT. It will be the day of David Beckham's first training session with his new team and members of the public are welcome to attend. LA Galaxy training sessions are not always open to the public, so if you are thinking of attending in the future, it will be best to check with the club or on their website before making the trip out to Carson.

As mentioned on Tuesday, David Beckham's official presntation on Friday will be screened on HDNet at 1pm ET, more details on this are now available here.



The Los Angeles Galaxy have re-launched their website with a new look to incorporate their new colors and logo you can check it out here.

Also Adidas have updated their MLS site to incorporate David Beckham you can visit the site here and the screen shots are in the gallery. 250,000 Beckham LA Galaxy shirts have already been sold, more here.

The volume of press articles surrounding Becks move stateside is massive so here are just a few - the Philadephia News has an article with some nice quotes from David Beckham's new team-mate Chris Albright. The new LA Galaxy shirts are officially on sale now and can be ordered online from authorised outlets such as Soccer.com also known as Eurosport.

Something to keep in mind for female fans is that the smaller 'youth' versions of the jerseys may actually be a better fit for you so check the size charts before ordering as they are also $20 cheaper.

One other thing to consider is that the shirts currently on sale are authorised replicas which means they look like what the players wear but they are made from a different fabric. If you would like to be able to buy an "authentic" replica, a shirt that is identical in every way including fabric to the shirts worn by David Beckham, you will need to wait as these shirts are not on sale as yet.

I have spoken with a couple of fans of Becks who have been collecting David Beckham shirts for many years and have quite the collections and they said they had positive experiences purchasing from the following - www.soccer.com - www.subsidesports.com - www.kitbag.com - www.sportsdirect.com

They also suggested the following stores www.uksoccershop.com and www.soccer-tops.com should be avoided.

If you live outside of the USA Soccer.com aka Eurosport will ship internationally and there rates for doing so are better than the other store I tried. When you are going through the first form they will ask you for a US zip code just pop in 90210 and then on the following screens you will be able to put in your international address.

If you live in the US the shirts are also for sale through your local Sports Authority or Dick's Sporting Goods Store.

Chelsea Comments

There was a press conference with the Chelsea Team today and as their friendly against the Los Angeles Galaxy next week will be David Beckham's debut the media were interested in the teams views on Becks and his move, here are some of their comments -

Arjen Robbens said "I think and I hope he's going to have a big impact ... Obviously there are going to be a lot more expectations on him for football in the US but hopefully he can bring it to another level."

"He's a top quality player and he's showed it. I think it was the best way to leave Madrid, if you win a title and you have a good influence on things then you've done a great job."

Robben also believes Beckham will be able to handle the media frenzy that will follow him as he adjusts to life in the MLS.

"When the press follows him very close it makes it a bit more difficult but he'll just try to stay himself," the Dutchman added. "Sometimes that's quite difficult. Myself, I like a lot of privacy around myself and my family but that's his life and he has to adapt to that.

"He has to adapt to life here, the football here, it's different. We'll have to see. I think he's looking forward to it. Off the field is always difficult. I've met him a couple of times and to me he is just a normal guy, a very good and friendly guy who just likes to live his life."

Jose Mourinho said "They couldn’t choose a better player [Beckham] to achieve what they want to achieve. I think it's a pity for European football that a good player like him is gone but we all in Europe want soccer in the US to go up (in popularity). We are Chelsea and we have a responsibility. We want to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a big game to promote their new team."

Ashley Cole said "He’s still one of the best. If you ask any player who’s marked him, he’s still quick... People say he ain’t, but he’s still got the skills."

CNN will be airing a special program "Becks on Becks" on July 14th and 15th. Becky Johnson will be provide a play by play of David Beckham's move to the US. Check the schedule on CNN International to see when the program will air in your country. Thanks to Marie for the heads up!

David Beckham's official LA Galaxy presentation this Friday will air on Sky news in the UK. It will be shown on HDNet and FSN in the US and the press conference will also be streamed on lagalaxy.com

Also just a reminder that Victoria Beckham's one hour reality special will air on NBC on Monday, July 16 and that David Beckham will make a brief appearance on the show.

Don't believe the spin

There is a set of quotes that Becks reportedly gave to Diario de Noticias doing the rounds. Please don't be taken in by the spin being placed on these quotes. Three of the four quotes are identical to comments made by David Beckham at his last Real Madrid press conference. The fourth matches comments he made in his post match interviews at the Bernabeu after the Mallorca game when he said he would miss Real Madrid, the fans and the Bernabeu. He also said that he would follow Real Madrid the following season.

These quotes are NOT new. I mention this only because the quotes have been picked up by reputable news sources today such as Skysport and are being spun as "David Beckham revealed he regretted choosing to move to Major League Soccer". However in the quotes cited there is actually no mention of MLS and David Beckham does not say he regrets his decision to go to the US.

Above is an excerpt from the documentary David Beckham: New Beginnings which will be aired on ESPN at 7:30pm on July 21 ahead of Becks debut with the LA Galaxy against Chelsea FC.

The one-hour documentary follows David Beckham's journey from leaving Real Madrid to starting his new career across the Atlantic in Los Angeles in Major League Soccer. The documentary will include "unprecedented access" to David Beckham as he and his family prepare for their new life in America. It will also feature Becks recent comebacks – his recall to England’s national team and the important role he played in Real Madrid’s 2007 La Liga title campaign. It will include interview footage with Becks which will cover rejoining England’s national team, how his teammates reacted, reflections on playing for the national team for the first time at the new Wembley Stadium, and his thoughts on the future of his international career and Euro 2008 while playing for the Galaxy.

There will be Behind the scenes footage of the adidas “Futbol vs. Football” campaign spot with David Beckham and New Orleans Saints all-purpose running back Reggie Bush

It will feature highlights of Becks first week in Los Angeles – training with the Galaxy, his official introduction to fans at The Home Depot Center (July 13) and his trip to the 2007 Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Game July 19)

Finally, there will also be comments from some of the LA Galaxy’s celebrity fans such as Steven Spielberg on Beckham’s arrival.

As I previously posted on this site, the documentary will also be aired on ITV in the UK later in the month.

There is extensive coverage of David Beckham's pending arrival in the US in the British media today as LA Galaxy President Alexei Lalas has given a series of media interviews discussing the businesses expectations of Becks and also their season to date you can view articles in The Guardian - The Telegraph and The Independent.

As previouisly announced David Beckham is expected to debut for the Los Angeles Galaxy on July 21 in an exhibition match against Chelsea FC. US fans can catch the match live on ESPN along with extensive pre-match coverage including a documentary called David Beckham: New beginnings.

David and Victoria Beckham attended the British Grand Prix today at Silverstone near Northampton. They were guests of Honda and the team boss Nick Fry said he believed it would be their last public engagement before travelling to the US on Tuesday. More details here. According to Whats on TV David and Victoria Beckham have agreed to make a cameo appearance in the Ricky Gervais comedy Extras. They will spoof themselves and are reportedly going to appear in the last ever show which will air on BBC1 at Christmas.

With David Beckham about to join the LA Galaxy the press are beginning their detailed coverage. There is an article that takes US soccer's temperature ahead of David Beckham's pending arrival in the New York Times and another in the Washington Times. There is also a superficial piece on David Beckham that concerns itself more with his cars than his soccer skills in the LA Times. Still, although David Beckham is yet to kick a MLS ball he has already begun to well and truly deliver the profile and coverage the league hoped he would.

There is a story-board of a commercial that ESPN is going to run this week to promote David Beckham's LA Galaxy debut available online here. Thanks to the LA Riot Squad. I found the ad pretty questionable, what do you think?

A week from today David Beckham will be officially presented as a Los Angeles Galaxy player so I thought now was a good time for a US info re-cap.

David Beckham's planned US Schedule

July 12 - according to media reports David Beckham is expected to arrive in Los Angeles.

July 13 - David Beckham will be officially presented as a Los Angeles Galaxy player at 10am LA time. The press conference will be streamed live via lagalaxy.com. The presentation will be open to the press and season-pass holders but not to the public.

July 16 - David Beckham is expected to train with the team for the first time. Training sessions may not be open to the public. Check with the club directly before making the trip.(Source)

July 19 - All-Star match against Celtic FC will be held in Commerce City, Colorado. David Beckham is expected to attend but not to actually play. (Source)

July 21 - David Beckham is expected to make his LA Galaxy Debut against Chelsea FC. Television coverage of Becks debut game will be as follows -

(Source) ESPN's coverage will kick off at 6 p.m. EDT with "SportsCenter" and an extra half-hour at 7 p.m. that will focus exclusively on Beckham. It will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by "David Beckham: New Beginnings," an hour long documentary about the soccer star. (I don't know if this is the name of the ITV documentary being made or something else). A half-hour pregame show will be hosted by Rob Stone and analyst Julie Foudy.

The match begins at 9 p.m. on ESPN with play-by-play announcer Dave O'Brien plus analysts Eric Wynalda and Tommy Smyth and sideline reporter Allen Hopkins. Reggie Bush, Becks recent co-star from the Adidas Futbol meets Football campaign will also be in the booth. ESPN said there will be 19 cameras, including a skycam, robotic goal cams and super slo-mo shots. There also will be a camera isolating Beckham's actions during the match as well, which will be available on ESPN360.com. ESPNSoccernet.com also will have coverage.

Throughout the week leading up to Beckham’s debut, ESPN will also present news, interviews, opinion and analysis surrounding Beckham’s move to MLS. there will undoubtedly be a lot of coverage which I'll post about as and when I hear details.

LA Galaxy announced in January that they would change their colors and logo, and launch them to coincide with David Beckham's presentation. The clubs colors appear to be midnight blue, white and yellow. The front of shirt sponsor is Herbalife. David Beckham will wear the number 23.

David Beckham @Concert for Diana

Injury Update

According to ESPN David Beckham had a scan on his injured ankle last weekend and the results were positive with medical staff advising that there is no long-term damage and Becks is thought to be on track to make his US debut later this month, most probably in a friendly against Chelsea on July 21. He will fly to the US next week after making an appearance at the David Beckham Academy in London, ahead of his official presentation as a Los Angeles Galaxy player next Friday.

Becks told The BBC "I think Princess Diana made such a huge impact on everybody's life, not just in our country ... but everyone around the world, so I can understand and believe the hype that's been involved in this."

David Beckham attended the Concert for Diana tonight and introduced Take That who had been one of the Princesses favourite bands. He came out to huge applause, and received the biggest cheer of the night which was nice. The first of the photos are in the gallery.
