PM Brown visits David Beckham's Academy
Update - There is a great article about David Beckham in The Telegraph
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown visited the David Beckham Academy today. Photos are in the gallery.
The Youtube clip above was released by Downing St. You can watch a clip of Becks being interviewed by the BBC on youtube here. There is also a clip of PM Brown taking part in a Q & A session with the children from the Hillyfields primary school on Becks official site.
(Source) Speaking after showing Prime Minister Gordon Brown around his football academy in Greenwich, London, David Beckham said, "I was proud to be involved in 2012 and being involved in 2018 is something I would be very interested in too.
Being English, to bring the World Cup back to England would be something really special and I would be honoured to be involved in that."
PM Brown has thrown his weight behind the 2018 bid and said although it was a matter for the FA, Becks enjoyed respect across the world.
The Prime Minister said: "David Beckham is known in every part of the world.
It's a matter for the FA but I'm sure David Beckham will be associated with every big sports [campaign] that happens in this country because of his reputation, and because of the fame and the respect he has worldwide."
The Prime Minister also praised David Beckham for inspiring children to lead a healthier life saying, "The kids listen to David Beckham. He shows that doing something to be fit, doing something for charity and doing something to help people is something we should all be very, very proud of."
According to The Mirror, Manchester is expected to get a new David Beckham Football Academy to continue Becks association with the city where he spent most of his playing career.
David Beckham said, he wanted to do everything he could to help. He said there was a need to take the lessons of the academy "out into the field".
He also said, "The interest we have had so far has been incredible. We have had 22,000 kids come through here and we will expand it into other places."
He said it was an "incredible honour" to have the PM's backing to use sport to boost nutrition, healthy lifestyles and education.

There have been rumours in the tabloid press today that Britains World Cup 2018 bid will be led by Prince William and David Beckham but no official announcement has been made as yet.
There are also a few photos from a Motorola contest winners training day held at the David Beckham Academy yesterday in the gallery.

Yes it is a great article in The Telegraph today. Did anybody see there was another article 'Beckham fails all tests of greatness' by Michale Henderson in The Telegraph a couple of days ago? It caused a quite debate from readers in the 'comment' section. I was invloved in that as well. Actully I was the first reader post a comment as I guess I was the fewer earlier readers after the artical published on line because the time difference. It was 3am in UK, but was day time in Toronto where I live. Anyway, I readed the article and get upset so post my comment under my English name 'Mary'. Later on there were about 30-40 comments came up in which 90% of readers stand on Beck's side, and strongly against the author and even the paper to pulishe this kind of garbage. My name was even metioned in couple of anti-Beck guys' comments. So I am not sure if this new article was a results of those reader's comments strongly agaisht the paper the day before played any role to pushing the paper to publish another one which was exact opposite from their previous one to reassure readers. That was just my guess. If it was, then I think us readers who has a fair view had a victory to against those bad press. If anyone interested in that debate, you could still read it on line, just find that article and you will see it. That was a little story related to this great article today, I think.

That article is spot on :) the journalist got it right---we cannot really put to words what makes Beckham who he is but the journalist seem to find the right words to describe him---its nice to see that kind of an article; hope there are more of these to come :)

Finally an honest article to David (miracle). Is true, even if he is one of the most famous men in world, he is not arrogant, but it is a humble and gentle boy with a mental strength impressive. Thanks Anne. Ciao everybody , Loredana, Samuel, Gabriel

Thanks to the person who mentioned about the sky clip I'll keep an eye out. I haven't seen it so thank you for the heads up :)

Thanks to Mei as well. I saw the first Telegraph piece after you and other commenters had had a good say -- which allowed me just to think the writer a COMPLETE twit instead of completely losing my temper!!! Well done for that and if you helped get this one published.
