Capello announces that a fit Beckham will play

Today we learn that coach Capello plans to include Beckham in his team! He was quoted by the PA:

"Surely he will have played friendly matches and those will be important. If he is fit and ready to play then he will be part of my team."

On the same token Capello seems frustrated with the attention given to Beckham (maybe he prefers the attention be on him? Like has been the case by not including Becks :) ).

"It seems that the most important thing is whether I choose David Beckham. I think we should focus on England." Added the coach.

Snoop Dogg previews Ego Trippin' for David Beckham and friends

(Source) Becks along with some other friends of Snoop Dogg were invited to attend a preview of his up coming album "Ego Trippin". From the MTV article:
"Could Snoop Dogg's smile get any wider? Definitely not. The legendary rapper just got the stamp of approval from one of the world's greatest and best-known athletes: David Beckham."

(...)

"After a round of photos Beckham and company left"
"I'll see y'all later, Church!" Beckam said to Snoop."

I'd be thrilled to see Becks get his 100th in the next match, but a little disappointed he'd miss the Galaxy season opener. It's not the end of the world, of course...it's just very unfortunate timing that worked out to pull him in multiple directions.

It's encouraging that Capello has said this though, because it means if not France, then Andorra. I very much want him to play against Andorra. I desperately want him on the side when it's competition, when it really and truly counts on the road for England's comeback.

That said, do not be surprised if Lalas pulls something out of his sleeve last-minute to interfere, or to *order Ruud Gullit* to do something other than rest Beckham, or allow him to go. Lalas has a very very deceitful and dishonest streak, whatever good things you can say about him as a player...as a businessman, he can be ruthless. Don't trust a good word that comes out of his mouth, he'll be just as happy to turn around and say a bad one beyond earshot (and sometimes, just coming out and saying it outright). There were plenty of occasions that he vetoed Yallop's decisions for dubious reasons. That wasn't always made public, but it's true.

And in this case I'm not sure Lalas would be wrong to complain that his big star would miss the season opener. That said, at least it's not a home game. If it was a home game there'd be greater pressure to show up for Galaxy.

Either way I'll be happy to see Becks play, and I certainly want him to get his 100th. But I also know he'll get a world of criticism if he misses the Galaxy game--Becks just can't win with the press. :)

So get ready for a rollercoaster, boys & girls! ;)

Thanks for the great post.

I know we don't like all of the traveling, but I think one long trip when Becks is in good shape would be ok. Javier Mascherano played for Liverpool today after playing in Los Angeles for Argentina on Wednesday, he did a great job and its in the middle of the Premiership season so he should be much less rested by now than Becks should be at the beginning of the season. The coaches hate it and I do too, but all the rest of the internationals are playing mid-week friendlies and club matches on weekends. We all just have to hope for the best.

Very well said re: Lalas. A snake.

Hi,

Just read an interesting story from 'Pelple Maganize' reporting that a female fan fainted from a kiss from Becks. Well, I can image it. what a lucky fan.

Sorry Diane, I was already making the assumption Gullit would rest him as he said a few days ago, hence my saying he'd miss the opener. :) That was premature.

I would go so far as to suggest Becks would have been fine to start those chaotic 3 games that led to his knee injury in August if he wasn't a) nursing a still-injured ankle to begin with and b) made to play all 90 of all 3. Taking into account the travel and all. He's very strong that way as we all know. So you're right, and yes he definitely is dealing with counterparts who play sometimes multiple games per week. Especially when the cups are on. (Thankfully for the EPLers Carling will be done, UEFA qualifiers in March are earlier in the month, and while I'm not sure offhand what the 6th round FA Cup schedule will be, the guys may be home and hosed for non-season matches before France.) Those players may be so accustomed to their schedules it's no big deal, or he may be a great pair of fresh legs -- particularly since MLS is, if everyone's going to beat the dead horse anyway, not as "quality" a league. Hardly going to wear him out if that's the case, eh? Either way he has a role to play and with luck he'll be able to play it many more times. :D

If he is called for Andorra, looking well ahead, timing won't be an issue for people to debate as RSL is also the 6th...so it's definitely one or the other. Unless he has a clone by then. ;) Preceding Galaxy game is 8/30, he can pull off 8/30 to 9/6 in terms of not needing a rest. Game after is 9/13, another week to recover.

Though I do think if anybody's worth making human cloning a real priority, it's him.
