Beckham's Call & New Blog

Congratulations, Becks!
As is common knowledge by now, David made Capello's provisional list of 30 players for the England vs. France friendly next week, which he'll whittle down to a final 23 this weekend. Congratulations to David!

It is unlikely that Becks will be cut from the 23-man squad, but stay tuned for a final squad list, coming soon. For some more articles about his impending 100th, look here and here (the latter is quite an extensive article).

To Miss or Not to Miss?
Speculation abounds regarding whether Becks will rejoin the Galaxy for their season opener in Colorado, or be rested for the match.

The Galaxy announced Thursday that David Beckham will rejoin the MLS team following Wednesday's England friendly in Paris against France.

Does this mean he will play three days later against the Rapids in the season opener? It's not clear. Does that mean he will even make the trip to Colorado? Again, not clear.

So the bottom line is: the Galaxy say he'll be back with the team following the England match, but whether or not he'll be with the team in Colorado remains to be seen. We'll keep you posted.

Beckham Has MLS Ownership Options
An episode of “60 Minutes to be broadcast on Sunday will reveal that when his contract with the Galaxy is up, Becks will have the option to buy an MLS club.

The option to buy an MLS club was granted to Beckham and Simon Fuller, his manager, by the Anschutz Entertainment Group [AEG], the owners of the Galaxy as well as a number of other teams and venues worldwide, as part of the deal that took him to the California club. (Source)

...This doesn't mean he'll be buying the Galaxy, or any team for that matter—nothing is set in stone. It's merely an option that's available to him and will be discussed on Sunday's show.

Eriksson Not Targeting Becks
Sven Goran Eriksson, Manchester City manager, is looking to make some big signings to City this summer. Perhaps due to his good relationship with David and the specific set of criteria he's seeking (older player more experienced player, massive crowd appeal), papers are stating Eriksson will try to lure him to City. Eriksson has denied any such claims.

Eriksson told the Manchester Evening News: "We haven't talked about David Beckham and I think it would be very difficult to match his salary!" (Source)

It's not the first time the City rumours have circulated, and it may not be the last.

Becks Blogs
The latest blog from Becks, c/o DavidBeckham.com:

Hi everyone,

Well, the new MLS season is less than two weeks away and I’m really looking forward to the first game against Colorado Rapids. This is my first full season with the Galaxy, so obviously I want to stay fit and play as many games as possible this year. Ruud Gullit has come in with new ideas and lots of experience, so we’re working hard in training and just counting the days until the season begins. I’m really excited about the new season and for me it can’t come soon enough.
We played our final pre-season game against FC Dallas last Saturday, which finished goalless, though I think we did enough to win the game. We played some great football and made some really good chances.
While in Dallas I met up with some old friends. The last time I was there (which was in 1989 with the Essex Schoolboys) I stayed with Sam and Christine Alacala at their house. They are wonderful people, who welcomed me into their home and I have such fond memories of the time I spent with them, so it was great to see them after all this time, although the family has grown a bit since I last saw them as I‘m sure they thought I had.
Tonight I am going to present the U.S Soccer Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award to Pele in New York. I’m honoured to be presenting the award to one of, if not the greatest, footballer of all time. The award is in recognition of his contribution to the game of soccer in the United States. It is definitely deserved as he really raised the profile of the game here during his time playing for the New York Cosmos. Also at the awards, Phil Anshutz, the owner of LA Galaxy (as well as the LA Lakers basketball team) is also due to receive an award, so congratulations to them both.

Speak to you soon

David

A Sweet Easter Treat
You may not be able to meet David or Victoria Beckham, but you might be able to eat chocolate versions of them.

Thorton’s, a British chocolate maker, has created some egg-tremely appealing special Easter eggs featuring the superstar couple and several other UK notables for charity.

Images of the soccer stud and Spice Girl have been stenciled on the eggs in dark chocolate and put up for sale on eBay.

Proceeds of the sale will go to children’s charity Barnardos.

Happy for Becks. The game will be broadcast in Italy (we are happy). We hope that the Galaxy is not so crazy, forcing David, on another trip, he has already paid for the error when he played after the game against Germany, we know the final .. If David wants to continue playing for his country, he should be heard, (Capello looks and observes all). For those who celebrate the Holy Easter, we to wish . Thanks Dina. Cia everybody Loredana, Samuele, Gabriel

Great news for David. As Capello said, David is probably more fresh than the other players since his season is just starting. Now hoping for his call to captain for this game! Can't wait. "Figures crossed"!Dina, I'm sure you'll have a link or two where we can watch the game (thanks always for that help!).

Too bad of the conflict with the Galaxy game, but Ruud Gullit and the Galaxy organization seem to understand better how to handle this schedule for David this year.

I'll definitely get you hooked up with online viewing, unless by some freak occurrence there is none. I'm sure we'll be able to work it out! :)
