Becks & Co. Turn Attention to England Campaign
Tomorrow's Charity Match Coverage
Thanks to an anonymous reader for letting us know you'll be able to watch tomorrow's Galaxy charity match vs. FC Dallas on the MLS web site. I'll post links/info tomorrow. Furthermore, I've found a radio station that will be covering it, and I'll get that info to you as well (and any online listening links that may be available). Stay tuned!
Reports are that ticket sales for the event are good, though no specific numbers are yet available.
Reuniting Old Friends
When Becks played youth football he took part in the Dallas Cup, and stayed with local couple Sam and Christine Alcala. He wrote fondly of the Alcalas in his autobiography--how welcome they made him feel, the breakfasts at McDonald's, and more. Many years have passed since then, and David and the Alcalas lost touch. Happily, the Alcalas and David will have the opportunity to reunite tomorrow in a private room at Pizza Hut Park, prior to the match!

Gullit Backs Becks's Century
Once again Ruud Gullit has come out in support of David's 100th cap. Bearing in mind tomorrow is the match Capello's general manager is reported to be attending to assess David's fitness, Gullit made the following statement:
David is looking good and has been playing some great football. He is fit. He played almost 90 minutes every game and I only took him out as a little precaution for one game. (Source)
Beckham Optimistic for England Future
Some quotes from David regarding his hopes for the impact of tomorrow's game on his international future were published in this article.
“I hope I’m given the chance to continue playing with the national team. I’m going to work hard here in the US, play as much as I can to be selected.
“That’s all I can do. That’s all I’ve done in my career. I’ve always wanted to be part of the national team and I can just hope that for myself.
“And if it doesn’t happen, it’s important the team go on to win major championships. That’s definitely possible with a manager like Capello.”
[...]
Beckham’s last outing for the national team was the disastrous defeat by Croatia which cost England a place in the European Championship.
He said: “Obviously, it was one of the biggest setbacks in our year.
“To not be involved in a major competition with the national team is a huge disappointment, especially considering the players we have.
“It’s about coming back from difficult times, from bad times, but we’ll come back.”

hopefully the full, healthy team will be playing today. i know it's only preseason, but it has been a shame to see David playing with a bunch of young kids just trying to make the team!
with landon donovan and carlos ruiz upfront for the first time together this season, hopefully david will have more opportunities to put on a good show for the fans and, most importantly, the English coaches!
