David's 100th Confirmed

100th Cap Confirmed
Capello has confirmed that David will play a role in tomorrow's friendly vs. France, which means his 100th cap will definitely come during this game. He will officially become the 5th man in English football history to achieve the 3 figure mark!

Asked whether Beckham will start against the French, Capello said: "I've yet to decide, although I have made my decision. He will play (some part). I could not possibly make him come from the USA and not play him.

"I know David and what he can give me. He can make the difference in some respects As for the future we will have to see. Nobody knows what the future holds. I think every player would like to reach this target but very few manage it so you have to give David credit. He has done really well to achieve this."

...on the other hand, The Sun (a source to take with a grain of salt as even the truth can be reported oddly) quotes Capello:

"The David Beckham I know can certainly last and get to 2010 if he carries on training as he has done.

“I know him well and know what he can give the team.

He has always been a very good professional. Only people like that can last so long in the game.

Eriksson Still in Favour of Becks for England
Regarding the question of whether Capello is giving Becks his century as a token or farewell, Sven Goran Eriksson spoke again in favour of David's international career.

Eriksson, who made Beckham team leader during his time as England boss, reckons that would be a mistake and claims the LA Galaxy star is still one of the most influential players on the world stage.

The Manchester City manager said: "David deserves this. So far 99 games, 17 goals and 29 assists in the national team.

And 58 times the captain. That's very good figures for someone just 32 years old.

"I hope he makes it to 100 at least because I know what it means to him to play for England. He loves his country and he's a very proud man. And also he has one of the best right foots in the world, if not the best. He is still a great player."

Trained Like a Madman
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had some flattering things to say about Beckham's stint training at Arsenal. He will be present to see Beckham earn his century.

"When he was with us, he set an incredible example. He worked and trained like a madman.

"He arrived first in the morning and was last to leave. If I had thought that for a moment he was going to come to us and play the 'big I am' then I never would have allowed him to join my group of players.

"But he was extremely discreet and was the model professional in fact.

"He just brought pleasure to everybody and everybody at Arsenal benefited from him being with us."
