USA Friendly & Ill Children in China

England Close to USA Clash
The FA revealed that negotiations for an England vs. USA friendly are in final stages. The match would occur at Wembley on May 28th. This means that if David is left off the squad for France, it is another opportunity for his 100th cap before the summer. The Galaxy schedule for this time frame is the 24th vs. Kansas City Wizards and the 31st vs. Toronto FC. This would likely have Becks off the Galaxy side for one or the other, but as we know Gullit has encouraged David's century regardless. We'll keep you updated about match details as they are finalised!

Read more about the friendly here.

Becks Visits with Ill Children
Today David went to Xinhua Hospital to spend time with and lift the spirits of children suffering from leukemia. He dispensed autographed gifts and visited for several hours. Photos are in the gallery.

Unfortunately the trip did create some problems, due to his overwhelming popularity in the country. Crowds swarmed the hospital and forced police to seal off the ward for the duration of David's visit. Judging by the smiling faces in the photos, the chaos didn't diminish from the goodwill one bit!

More here.

Happy Birthday, Brooklyn!
While Becks was able to visit with the children in Xinhau Hospital, he unfortunately will be unable to visit with his son Brooklyn on his 9th birthday today. Brooklyn is in the U.S. with his mum, so father and son celebrated with a phone call, for now. Fans are feeling celebratory, too. During open training yesterday fans unfurled a “Happy Birthday Brooklyn" banner. At the promotional event reported yesterday, David said of his family:

"Unfortunately they will not be here (in China), but they send their love." (Source)

And while his work keeps him far from home, family matters are clearly still a priority for him. Daily Star reports one of the first things David plans to do when he returns to LA is treat his family to a good old-fashioned home-cooked meal.

David said in the current issue of OK!:
“I am the master of the kitchen. I just love to cook. It’s a passion of mine. My speciality is roast chicken on a Sunday with roast potatoes and veg."

(Since my speciality consists of a frozen Lean Cuisine, this sounds pretty darn good to me!)

Here's a 1+ minute clip of the Shanghai press conference and some footage from training:

As far as I know it was just a kick to his right thigh he'd sustained earlier in the game, and nothing serious. They took him off as a precaution. We'll keep an eye on it though. Thanks!
