Well, what a fantastic feeling to know that England will definitely be going to next year’s World Cup in South Africa. After the disappointment of not getting to Euro 2008, qualifying so comfortably for the biggest tournament on earth was an achievement. The match against Croatia wasn’t about revenge after they stopped us qualifying two years ago, it was about getting the right result, playing well and doing ourselves justice, and I think we achieved all three.

Obviously, I was pleased to get on the pitch and play a small part. By the time I came on though the game was all but won, so it was nice to be out there enjoying it with the other players. Of course, the hard work really starts now so it’s up to all the players who want a place to prove they are worthy and I’m certainly one of them. I’d be honoured to be picked for the squad and I shall try and make sure that I continue to work hard to give myself the best possible chance.

I’d like to add my thanks to the England fans for their support of the team. As I said previously, they are some of the most amazing fans in the world and a tournament in South Africa will be poorer without them so it will be great that they will have the chance to experience a World Cup in Africa.

On my way now back to LA for an important match this weekend against Dallas. We need to keep our recent good run and make a push for the play offs.

That’s all for now.

Take care,

David

World Cup 2010: David Beckham hopes of playing for England at World Cup boosted
Thanks to a fan for sleuthing the next few articles.

Beckham, 34, made his 114th international appearance as England swept past Croatia 5-1 on Wednesday to qualify for South Africa with two games to spare.

By remaining firmly in Capello’s plans, the midfielder could break England’s all-time appearance record at the finals. He needs to feature 12 more times to pass the mark held by retired goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

“He is always with us because for me he is one of the most important players,” Capello said. “He is good in the group, he is good in every moment during the training. Some players are important for the position and morale of the group.” Keep reading

World Cup 2010: Fabio Capello should pick David Beckham in squad for South Africa

Beckham won his 114th cap as a second-half substitute, but of greater significance was his appearance on the replacements bench ahead of Shaun Wright-Phillips and Michael Carrick.

Beckham provides experienced cover on the right of midfield, but also in the centre, where he played when he appeared on Wednesday evening.

With Beckham due to return to play in Europe this January, a repeat of his performances for Milan in the second half of last season will seal his place in the squad, even though he will have turned 35 before England fly out. Keep reading
