Los Angeles 1 – 0 Chivas USA

David Beckham had gone scoreless for more than a month. On Saturday night, he put an end to that drought and tightened the Western Conference race in the process.

Beckham scored in the 80th minute to lead the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 1-0 victory over Chivas USA on Saturday. It was the first league goal for Beckham since he re-joined the Galaxy on July 16.

“It always helps of course,” Beckham said of his game-winning tally. “It’s always nice to score a goal and win a game, especially against your rivals. Its a big game for us because we wanted to keep our momentum up.”

[...] With 10 minutes remaining, Galaxy defender Todd Dunivant sent a throw-in from the left sideline to the middle of the penalty area. Teammate Omar Gonzalez headed the ball forward, allowing Beckham to fire a shot from just inside the penalty area off the left post and across the goal line.

“I knew I had to hit it down because it was bouncing awkwardly and sometimes it can end up in the back row. Thankfully it ended up in the back of the net,” Beckham said. “It wasn’t the prettiest game of soccer we played, but three points are three points.”

This David Beckham Experiment thing seems to be working out pretty good these days. I think all the journalists who were writing negatively about Beckham never played soccer at a high level. And, they knew if they wrote about Beckham they’d get some attention. They should have at least acknowledged that without Beckham their stories wouldn’t have been printed.

Anyway, the guy can still play some soccer and this isn’t any easy goal, especially when it’s bouncing this way. How many times have you seen a professional player smash the ball into the stands? Way too many times. Source

David Beckham: He’s No Bill Clinton, But…

We’re going to leave the international diplomacy to people like former President Bill Clinton.

However, David Beckham sure has a way of making political discourse a bit more, well, sexy.

The soccer stud met journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee after the Galaxy’s win over Chivas USA this weekend at L.A.’s Home Depot Center.

I’m told Lee and her family are Chivas fans, but no biggie. They gladly accepted Becks’ gift—the shirt he wore during the game. Source

Beckham Asked To Promote California By Schwarzenegger
This links well with the gallery we posted this weekend, David creating the California Tourism ad.

David Beckham has been asked by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to star in a campaign promoting his adopted state, according to AP.

Beckham joins other Hollywood stars such as The West Wing and Brothers And Sisters actor Rob Lowe and Ugly Betty actress Vanessa Williams as ambassadors promoting the delights of California.

The announcement comes despite the Los Angeles Galaxy marquee player saying that he wanted to stay in Italy and play for Milan earlier this year, when on loan to the Rossoneri.

The campaign will see the 34-year-old kick balls into the ocean for the California Travel and Tourism Commission. Source

Ellen DeGeneres Snapped in Picture With Half-Naked David Beckham
I’m not sure if this refers to his Ellen DeGeneres appearance from earlier this year, or a new one about to air. It was dated today, but that doesn’t always mean it’s current. Either way, it’s an amusing photograph. :-)

Ellen DeGeneres really knows how to surprise someone. During a recent taping of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, in which David Beckham made an appearance, the show’s host presented him with a huge poster, which showed her face along with the football player’s almost naked body. The image, which was taken for Emporio Armani Autumn/Winter 2009-10 underwear campaigns, originally features David posing with his wife Victoria Adams. However, the 30-foot poster, which was hung outside the studio, superimposed Ellen’s face on the former Spice Girls singer’s who donned sexy lingerie. Source
