David’s Latest Blog
Hi everyone,
Well, we’ve qualified for the playoffs, which is a great feeling. We’re also top of the Western Conference and we want to stay there for the remainder of the season. We’ve got Houston Dynamo on Sunday and they’re second, so a good result is very important if we want to finish top. Of course, once the regular season is over we’ve still got some way to go if we want to win the MLS Cup. It’s the first time I’ve made it to the playoffs since I’ve been with the Galaxy and I’m excited about the prospect of winning something with the team. We’ll need to beat the other top teams in the MLS though so it won’t be easy, but we’ll definitely be giving it our best shot.
I’m away with England at the moment, training ahead of our next World Cup qualifying games. Although we’ve already qualified for next year’s World Cup we’ll still be taking these matches very seriously as we want to keep up the winning mentality and finish the group strongly.
That’s all for now.
Take care
David
England Squad
As you’ve heard, David’s with England now in preparation for this weekend’s qualifier against Ukraine. You can find a full list of Capello’s 24 man provisional squad here. The list may be in flux because some last-minute injury concerns have seen some players swapped out – but Becks remains.
Online broadcast clarification
There’s a mounting controversy about the Ukraine match not being broadcast on TV; it will only be available on the internet for pay, on a pay-per-view type basis. Apparently the FA are getting rather tired of accusations, since it was up to the Ukraine football association how rights were handled. You can read the full explanation here. I mention this as forewarning. It may be difficult for me to find you free viewing links for this match.

“His performances, whether they be for LA Galaxy or AC Milan, have been brilliant and he has been great for England as well.
“Whether he has started the game or come on as a substitute he has done fantastically well.

England Need Beckham to Boost Cup Bid – Warner
England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup is falling off the pace and needs help from David Beckham, CONCACAF president and FIFA executive member Jack Warner said on Wednesday. [...]“England has the best infrastructure, the best league, the best history in the world and when I see all these things I ask why they are not doing better,” Warner said at the Leaders in Football conference at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
“They don’t have a divine right to hold it but I feel they (the bid committee) don’t exploit their attributes, they are not lording it over their opponents.
“My colleagues are saying the people coming to them are lightweight. They need to be creative and innovative. I would take David Beckham for example and make him my ambassador. He has that stardust.
“Some of they guys who have to vote do not know the people on the England bid committee — but they know Beckham, they know Michael Owen.”
