Landon Donovan scored in the 42nd minute and Donovan Ricketts made four saves for his seventh shutout in the Los Angeles Galaxy’s 1-0 victory over the Chicago Fire on Friday night.

Los Angeles Galaxy Clinch MLS Playoff Spot

Combined with the Galaxy’s 1-0 victory on Friday night against the Chicago Fire and D.C. United’s loss on Saturday afternoon, the LA Galaxy secured their first MLS Cup playoff berth since 2005.

The last time the Galaxy reached the playoffs, they won the championship, but the LA team has since contrived to lose out on the chance to vie for the title since then.

Donovan ‘proud’ of Beckham’s MLS progress

David Beckham has the pop-star wife, Beverly Hills home, millions in the bank and even a spot on those annoying California tourism commercials.

And finally, two years and two months after moving to the United States, he has the full respect of his Los Angeles Galaxy teammates.

The transformation of Beckham from a closeted outsider in the Galaxy locker room to archetypal team player has taken place behind closed doors in one of the England midfielder’s rare sanctuaries away from the public glare. Yet the seismic shift in his attitude and approach to Major League Soccer since returning from a loan stint at AC Milan in July has not only infused fresh life into the Galaxy, but it has also given U.S. soccer’s fans and followers a fresh respect for the 34-year-old. “That deal I think hasn’t been fully finalized yet but I know he is interested in going to Milan and he’s in conversation with the L.A. Galaxy about doing a loan again and discussing coming back,” MLS commissioner Don Garber told The Associated Press. “But those discussions are ongoing and haven’t really been concluded yet. David has been an important part of the history of Major League Soccer and we’d love to have him continue his commitment to the league.

“We hope that the Galaxy and David can reach some agreement that makes sense for David, the Galaxy and Major League Soccer.” Keep reading

I haven’t seen this from the FA directly yet, but will keep you updated when “official” news hits!

England midfielder David Beckham will join the the national squad on Tuesday despite a prolonged ankle injury, which has been a cause of worry for manager Fabio Capello.

Beckham had, earlier, missed Los Angeles Galaxy’s MLS game in Columbus last weekend, but was part of the team which Chicago Fire on Friday night, which guaranteed the club a place in the MLS play-offs for the first time since 2005.

Though Capello’s representatives were not present at the game, but the fact that Beckham managed to play for 90 minutes without any significant blemish would guarantee his place in the England trip to Ukraine and the Wembley clash against Belarus, The News of the World reports.

Once Beckham reports to the squad, the FA doctors will also monitor his injury. Source
