RSL stuns Galaxy 5-4 in penalty shootout
David Beckham limped badly, the pain from a bone bruise in his right foot piercing through three pregame injections. Landon Donovan angrily ripped off his armband after watching a penalty shot go sailing over the crossbar.The image most expected of Beckham and Donovan holding the championship trophy of Major League Soccer for the league’s marquee franchise was replaced by anger and frustration.
Instead, it was those upstarts from Real Salt Lake celebrating their first title.

Beckham promises to return to MLS, buy franchise
A young woman in the first row behind the far corner flag was savoring prime views of the world’s most recognizable player.The T-shirt she wore to the MLS Cup on Sunday night had a simple message in black and white: “Beckham Bend It Here.”
David Beckham promised he will be indeed be back in MLS next season — and that he will eventually exercise his option to own one of the league’s teams.
“Of course,” he said of returning in 2010, after his limped through the Los Angeles Galaxy’s upset loss to Real Salt Lake in the league’s championship match. “I’ve said I’ll be back, and I will.”

Agent: Asthmatic Beckham can inspire sufferers
David Beckham has secretly suffered from a mild form of asthma since childhood, but could now be seen an inspiration to fellow sufferers of the breathing condition, according to the player’s agent.The 34-year-old Beckham was photographed on Sunday using an inhaler during L.A. Galaxy’s 5-4 defeat on penalties by Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer’s championship game in Seattle.
“David has suffered with this since he was a young boy, but it has obviously had no effect on his performance,” Beckham’s agent Simon Oliveira was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
“He has never sought to make it public but if it does inspire any sufferer to think they can achieve great things like many other sportsmen have done then so much the better.”
